Product Warranties
We stand behind our manufacturers' warranties and will work with our vendors to resolve any issues within the warranty period for defects on items purchased through Design for Living.
Please reach out to info@designbylivingbyah.com if you experience any issues beyond normal wear and tear so we can work to resolve the situation quickly.
Product Care
While a majority of the items sourced for your project can be cleaned with basic gentle cleaners, some vintage and custom items may require special care. If these instructions are not noted on the item care tag itself, please contact info@designforlivingbyah.com for more details. Below are general care instructions- your individual products may differ from the below.
Bleach and windex are not recommended for cleaning. They can damage the finish on stone and eat away at grout. Dawn dish soap and warm water are gentle alternatives for everyday cleaning.
WOOD FURNITURE
Wipe furniture with a damp cloth, then wipe away any remaining moisture with a dry cloth. Using 100% cotton cloth is best. Use coasters for beverages. For low sheen wood, avoid wax-based and silicone polishes. Also avoid Windex and abrasive cleaning products.
UPHOLSTERED FURNITURE
Protect your furniture from direct sunlight and excessive humidity and dryness. Vacuum furniture regularly with a soft brush attachment. Blot stains with a clean, white cloth and check the cleaning code under the cushion for further instructions. Do not machine wash cushions, unless specifically stated on the care tag. Avoid abrasive cleaning products.
QUARTZ
Quartz is stain and scratch resistant, it is not impervious. Do not set hot pots or pans directly onto quartz countertops.
Clean with warm water and dawn dish soap. To make a dawn dish soap cleaning spray, combine water + large squeeze of dawn dish soap in a spray bottle.
NATURAL STONE (Quartzite, Granite, Marble)

PLUMBING FIXTURES
Coated Metals:
Wipe your fixture down with a soft cloth after each use to prevent mineral build-up and water-spotting. Should spotting occur, remove water spots with warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Using a plastic and fiberglass polish paste works best. We recommend Flitz Multi-Purpose Polish and Cleaner Paste.
Please refer to the individual manufacturer’s care instructions.
Uncoated Metals/ Living Finishes:
Wipe your fixture down with a soft cloth after each use to prevent mineral build-up and water-spotting. Should spotting occur, remove water spots with warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Living finish products are artistic products that will age and wear over time, enhancing the rustic, natural look of the metal.
Do not use abrasive cleaners, ammoniated products, rubbing alcohol, detergents, astringents, bleach-based cleaners, aggressive chemicals, abrasive cleaning pads, or harsh polishes on the fixture. Use of such products may void the warranty.
Do not allow soap scum or toothpaste to build up on the product. These will gradually wear away the protective coating and may diminish the beauty and durability of the finish.
Newport Brass recommends Brass ProTech (part# 98000) to clean, polish, and protect Newport Brass and Brasstech products. Apply Brass ProTech with a soft cloth and let dry. Remove the polish by gently rubbing with a soft dry cloth.
California Faucets recommends to occasionally apply Renaissance Wax. Apply sparingly and gently buff with a soft, clean cloth to remove surface spots and add a protective layer to the surface.
SPECIALTY GLASS
We have found that avoiding products with ammonia at all costs on specialty glass surfaces helps preserve the longevity of the glass. We recommend a specialty glass cleaner, like Sprayway Glass Cleaner, on glass surfaces such as dining room tables, painted glass, stained glass, antique mirrors, and bronze mirrors.
CARPET
To clean up any spots you find on your carpet, we recommend using Carpet Capture Total Care Kit. Depending on the type of carpet installed, please check which vacuum setting will cause minimal wear and tear. MOST CARPET COMPANIES WILL VOID THEIR WARRANTY IF A VACUUM WITH A BEATER BAR IS USED.
Paint Care
We recommend labeling your paint cans by room and storing them in a cool, temperature-controlled, dry location.
*IMPORTANT NOTE: Please do not store paint in a non-temperature controlled garage or attic.
To care for painted surfaces, we recommend the following:
Determine your paint finish. Eggshell, satin or semi-gloss sheens are typically more durable than flat finishes.
Dust your walls before washing them.
Start with water and a clean damp sponge.
Begin at the top of the wall and work in small sections using gentle circular motions.
Dry the area with a clean, soft cloth.

Never use glass or household cleaners or Mr Clean Magic Erasers on walls, and always wait 14 days to clean freshly painted walls.
future projects
We would love to work together on your next project, big or small! Please reach out when you are ready so we can talk through the details. From there we'll customize a proposal that will lay out exactly what we recommend to achieve those results, or recommend our smaller design consultation service if your project doesn't call for full-service assistance.
