Organic Kitchen Remodel: Breathing Life into a Builder-Grade Kitchen
Organic Kitchen Remodel:
Breathing Life into a Builder-Grade
Kitchen
Initial Impressions
When our clients came to us to remodel the kitchen in their home that had been built just five years prior, it was clear that the builder-grade cabinets were not going to last much longer. The goal was to maintain the current footprint in order to keep the existing hardwood floors, but to upgrade everything in the kitchen to create the client’s dream space.
Integrating Long-Lasting Materials for Sustainability & Functionality
One major change was made to the layout to create symmetry on the back wall. The cooktop and hood were moved so that they were centered with the island, creating a focal point that draws your eye. The client’s existing large black and gold pendants flank the new hood, and the dramatic quartzite backsplash and ledge detail topped with hand-fired ceramic tile finish off the back wall.
Custom rift white oak* cabinetry mixed with painted white cabinetry combines a clean and organic look. Several design meetings were focused on cabinet design to lay out every detail from spice to Tupperware storage. Natural stone Mont Blanc quartzite* countertops with organic veining pull together the white oak and painted cabinets. An unlacquered brass faucet and hardware* finished the kitchen with a natural yet glamorous statement.
An existing base cabinet just inside the Garage entry that was used as mail station was transformed into a decorative display cabinet with storage below. The door to the left of the decorative cabinet reveals an upgraded custom pantry with bold green cabinets and black granite countertops.

Design Terms Defined
Rift White Oak
Rift is a type of cut that produces a straight grain in white oak. White oak has less red or pink undertones than red oak and is having a major moment in home renovations because of its clean, linear graining and versatile, natural color.
Quartzite
Quartzite is a natural stone that is quarried all over the world. Mont Blanc quartzite is imported Brazil. It has a similar feel to marble, but is harder and more durable. Quartzite is our favorite material for kitchen countertops because of its natural variation and durability. Want to learn more about countertop options? Take a look at our blog, countertop materials.
Unlacquered Brass Hardware
Unlacquered brass hardware is uncoated brass that will show age and imperfections because it doesn’t have a protective coating over the finish. It’s meant to change over time, like marble and leather. It can be polished to minimize tarnishing, or left untouched to encourage an aged appearance.
